Food Loos and Waste
Developed within the scope of the ZEROW EU project
The FLW platform will act as a platform for collecting accessible data from all Short food supply chain (SFSC) actors, including food production and processing, retail, the HORECA sector and consumers, including the use of resources, repro material and machinery. Collecting data from all SFSC actors will enable a high-quality and comprehensive overview of relevant data. Due to the incompleteness of data scattered across several different databases and inefficient measurement of only FLW data (social biases, willingness), we will use various databases to collect data about the whole production phases. The data collection will be automated as much as possible by linking public and existing databases through custom connectors. The collected data will increase the transparency of the SFSC, enable forecasting, monitoring and optimization of resources, and calculated FLW throughout the SFSC and increase economic and resource efficiency. Collected data will also allow reporting, visualization and sharing of data between actors and stakeholders, including policy-makers and solution providers. The platform will be multi-purpose, as it will collect and display data for different groups of actors and the entire SFSC. Displayed data could be also used for developing future solutions for reducing FLW. With the platform, detection of "hotspots" or where the most FLW is generated by the actor or in the whole SFSC will be possible.
The important platform's contribution is that collected relevant data from the actors turn into actionable insights, allowing FLW reduction for the actor and the entire SFSC. This will also be useful for policy-makers to evaluate the FLW state on actual data. Different stakeholders can use anonymized data as input data for other research or development of solutions related to FLW. The data may also be helpful in promoting and raising awareness of FLW in the broader community.
